Iceland captain, Aron Gunnarsson, has said it would be difficult for his team to qualify from the Group D of the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
Gunnarsson also said he is wary of the “physically strong” Nigerian team.
Iceland, appearing in the competition for the first time, has been drawn in Group D along with Nigeria, Argentina and Croatia.
Coach Heimir Hallgrimsson’s side qualified against all odds in group I of the European World Cup qualifying zone ahead of Croatia, Turkey, Finland, Kosovo and Ukraine.
Gunnarsson who plies his trade with Cardiff City was part of Iceland team that finished top of the qualifying group with 22 points.
He said, “This is an incredibly difficult group.
This will be an experience, but really difficult.
“Argentina have one of the strongest squads in football but the Nigerian players are great athletes, physically strong and it’s difficult to cope with them.”
Iceland will face Argentina in their opening game on the 16th of June at the Otkrytiye Arena in Moscow before facing Nigeria at the Volgograd Stadium, Volgograd six days later.
